Before you adhere the lettering to your wall, be sure to wash the wall thoroughly with a general household cleanser. Dirt, grease, or residues will keep the lettering from sticking properly to your wall. The wall must be clean and dry.
Prepare Quote
Some quotes will come in rolls because of the length. Unwrap the quote and let it sit flat until it stops wanting to roll itself up. The quotes have a transfer tape (the clear tape on top of your letters) on one side and backing paper (white and shiny) on the other. Before peeling the back paper off (in the next step), burnish (rub) the surface of transfer tape with the tool provided to ensure the quote is adhered solidly to the transfer tape. (Letters may pull away from transfer tape during shipping.)
Application
Using masking or painter’s tape, attach your lettering (all 3 layers together) to the wall along the top edge of your quote with enough tape so that it will stay put while you check to see if it is level. Use a level along the bottom edge of a line of text to verify that it is level on the wall. This is a better guide for leveling than using the edge of the paper. If you need to, make adjustments now to see that the lettering is level. You can also use a tape measure along the top line of lettering to measure the distance from the words to the ceiling. Once the lettering is taped to your wall along the top edge, flip the words up, using the tape as a hinge. Carefully peel off the backing (waxy paper). The letters should adhere to the tape (if they are sticking to your waxy paper, flip them back down and reburnish your letters). Sometimes you have to burnish particular letters more than others. Once they are removed from the backing paper, you can lay them back down against your wall.
Burnishing
Burnish your letters onto your wall. Carefully press any air bubbles out from underneath the words. Burnish again, apply more pressure over the entire area.
Transfer Tape Removal
Carefully peel back the transfer tape at a 45° angle. This will leave the quote on your wall. This can be a slow process. Be careful not to peel the backing away too quickly. Sometimes the letters want to stick to the tape instead of the wall. If this is the case, you will need to be a bit more persistent with your burnishing. If you have a long quote, you may want to cut away the application tape that is already removed from the wall as you go along so that it doesn’t get in your way.
